Magestry’s Best of Harvestwane 126

Here are our picks for the September 16th-18th event:

silverbestpc

This month’s Best PC is a veteran player with a love for playing characters in full makeup. Whether he’s a golden ray of light or a shadowy ball of emotions, Peter Dey as Silver is an great role-player. It is exceptionally rare to catch him out-of-character during game, and his stoicism broken by random and unexpected bits of humor makes him a likeable, if somewhat intimidating character. Pete has always worked to bring in new people to the game and always tries to make sure to help set up before game and clean up afterwards. His enthusiasm and kindness are noticed and appreciated by all. Thanks, Pete!

“I found myself unable to stop watching Silver as a newcomer. While [he is] on the quiet side of things, I don’t believe I ever saw him drop character.”

“Silver, while he was quieter than usual it showed that his character had some deep troubles going on.”

“Silver does a great job of staying in character, has an amazing costume and overall is a pleasure to role-play with.”

“Silver always plays a good Silver and I was more in awe of him this game than usual.”

Talya Goodman. She’s always fun to fight and to RP with she plays a great nipper and her enthusiasm is infectious.

This month’s Best NPC is always a breath of fresh air whenever she comes to game and is ready and willing to do whatever needs to be done. Talya Goodman is a wonder behind the scenes. She is equally as able to play a serious character as she is able to make your tummy hurt from laughing so much and she is a fun and safe fighter who will crunch at the drop of a hat. We are always thrilled to have her at game and are thankful for all the help she gives when she is there. Thanks, Tal!

“Talya. Hands down. She brings humor into situations which really should be terrifying.”

“Talya Goodman. She’s always fun to fight and to RP with. She plays a great nipper and her enthusiasm is infectious.”

Honorable Mention for Best NPC goes to Amanda Mooney in her role as Rebekkah Skye on Friday night! We were absolutely thrilled with her performance, and so were you!  Check out what you had to say about our Miss Mooney:

“Rebby Skye-(the woman who tried to become the Shadow Queen). She seems like a powerful long term villain, who has goal, personality, and a commanding presence about her. She makes a good Evil Queen figure, even if she is not yet a queen (just don’t tell her that to her face).”

“Rebekkah Skye, she just had this aura of power, but combined with that calm, sweet tone and overall scariness I have to say she was the best npc character.”

“Rebekkah Skye. She put off this aura of menace and tension that was phenomenal.”

“Rebbie Skye was very well done, the coronation was very tense and her discussions with the townsfolk and npcs was very captivating.”

“Amanda was soo believable as Rebby Sky, which is great because Amanda is such a kind soul. Amazing role playing.”

“Rebby sky. even though my character hates her, Amanda does a wonderful job playing her.”

PC Submission: Harvest Festival Bardic Competition!

Attention performers in and around Irvanshire!

You may have heard of me; my name is Simon T Garren, Master Maestro and musician. On the 8th of Reapingdusk, I will be one of the judges for a Bardic competition held at Aces in Elmerton for their Harvest Festival. I am hoping to bring performers of all kinds to Elmerton to compete for coin and prizes! As we all know, Reapingdusk will soon be upon us [or is upon us depending on the speed of the courier and publisher]. The weather is getting cooler and the tendency is for people of all kinds to seek warmer insular climes. Having read a few creation stories in my time, I came upon an interesting passage which reads as follows:

y

“… since death was one of the reasons for music, Music was to be the reason for Death …”

We all know that Reapingdusk is the moon dedicated to the Incarnation of Death, and so I would like to play along with this passage. Performers of all kinds will be competing for multiple prizes. Entry fee is five copper per participant. Prizes will be as follows:

1st place:
Half of the entry fees, plus 5 gold from me, Simon T Garren. As well the winner gets first choice from our specialty prizes to be named on site [but will be exciting]
2nd place:

One quarter of the entry fees plus 25 silver pieces from me, Simon T Garren.  The second place finisher will also get to choose a prize from the specialty prizes.

 3rd place:

25 silver pieces from me, Simon T Garren and third choice from our specialty prizes.

 Bonus Prize:

Performance best symbolizing Death or paying best homage to Him [while respecting the safety of the audience and the judges] will receive a masterwork instrument crafted by me, Simon T Garren. We will discuss the crafting after the competition and the prize will be delivered within one years time.

Donations to add to the pot or for the specialty prizes will also be accepted by me, Simon T Garren.

So stop by the Aces Harvest Festival in Elmerton and put on your best bardic act for the crowd!

KIDNAPPING!! ARSON!! MURDER!!

Local authorities responded to reports of a farmstead being burnt to the ground, and its inhabitants slain, a day’s walk southwest of Riverton, sources tell us.

castle burns“It was…horrible. I’ve been working with the militia for years now, and have never seen anything like it.” stated Lebben Farseer, an investigator working with local Irvanshirian Militia troop. “The entire farmhouse was burnt to the ground, and all the livestock gone, but the family…the family was slaughtered. It weren’t no bandit group or wild animal did to those bodies what these THINGS did…it almost looks as though something turn’t those poor folks inside out. I don’t know what could have possibly done it to those folks, but others in the area have been told about it, and many of them are fleein’ the area, and rightfully so!…”

The bodies of the family have been identified as Pav and Ingrid Wilmer, local cattle farmers. Unfortunately, the bodies of their two children, ages fourteen and eleven, were also discovered on the scene. Recently, the Wilmers family had also adopted a young elven boy by the name of Owen through the Fortune’s Children program, but Owen was not found with the rest of his family, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Authorities are suspecting foul play, as there had recently been rumors of suspicious activity involving a group of unrecognized children in the area.

Anyone with any information on Owen’s whereabouts or any information on who could have committed this atrocious act should contact either the authorities in Riverton, the local troop of the Irvanshirian militia, or members of the Fortune’s Children group of The Allegiant.

Portal Authority Declares 92% Portal Anchors Repaired!

Near the start of the Age of Fortune, the Portal Authority- an organization dedicated to the study, control, and use of both inter-dimensional and intra-dimensional travel on Magesta- wanted to make it easy for people (mainly of wealth and importance) to travel to and fro across the face of Magesta, and so they built portal anchors: weakened portal points reinforced through astral magic. These portal anchors, set up primarily in large and influential towns and cities, were widely used for over a hundred years with only a very few mishaps to speak of in that time. Oh, every now and again an anchor would be vandalized or overused, causing it to send someone to an unknown and unintended dimension or to simply explode, but those instances were generally few and far between and well cleaned-up.

portalHowever, just over a year ago, almost the entire Portal Anchor system throughout Magesta was systemically infiltrated and ultimately disabled. At first, Portal Authority agents thought it was the result of a combined effort of a loosely coordinated group of portal jackers  known as the Ledgerdemain to shut down the ability of the Portal Authority to move quickly throughout Magesta, however, the damage was so intensive and comprehensive that they ruled that out quickly. Now the going theory is that the damage to the system was done by a dangerous rogue Portal Jacker known only as “Fury.” Though not much could be found about this rogue jacker, suffice it to say that he knew the ins and outs of not only the Portal Authority (causing them no end of grief and trouble), but the Portal Anchor system itself.

His tampering could have destroyed over 100 years of continual building and construction of this important system, and though experts are still trying to figure out why he did not complete his work, they acknowledge that “there is enough damage to be getting along with as is without trying to figure out why he didn’t do more.” Repairs have been ongoing throughout the year and though an estimated 92% of Magesta’s Portal Anchors have been reestablished and working within an acceptable dependability range (89%), there is still plenty of intensive and extensive work to be done.

Blood Oath Sworn Against Skye

To All of Elmerton:

Greetings Elmerton, it is I, Bosephus Blackgate. I am sorry for the absence of myself, Boom and other members of my family this past moon. While Rebekkah was having her so called “ceremony” a massive force of shadows, shadow touched family members, and the few remaining true human cannibal Blackgates attacked us in massive numbers. It took hours of fighting for us to finally bring them down. In the aftermath of the attack Boom had to seal off one of our main chambers to prevent further incursions and we had many wounded who needed to be taken care of. We finally have the full story of what happened. I knew that her ambitions knew no bounds- I have known this since before my brother married her oh so many years ago. I knew she wanted to be shadow queen, as that would certainly be the nail in the coffin for me and my family. I knew that she hated us enough to try for something crazy, but I never thought she would be mad enough to try and broker a deal with a Vampire Lord to make her dreams become reality.
This tells me one thing, she is desperate. She is desperate and afraid. She knows that we can defeat her and she is backed into a corner. While that is certainly something we can use it’s also always good to remember that a cornered animal with nothing to lose is always the most dangerous. That being said I am doing something I have held back in doing for a very long time. I did it mostly in the memory of my brother as I was still trying to hold on to the foolish belief that somewhere inside her there was still a part of her that was still human, that could still feel and care. Now I know that if that part of her ever existed it is long dead. I will no longer show any mercy or hold anything back the time has come.
Rebekkah Skye Blackgate, I as the leader of my family have sworn a blood oath against you. You and the perversion of our family name will not only be defeated but erased from history. Every power I and my family have will be turned against you. Every ounce of blood that runs through our veins will be spilled if needed to ensure that you and your “kin” can never sully the Blackgate name ever again. I declare total war on you and your faction of bastard Blackgates and shadows. If our bloodline ends in this new stage of our war so be it. We will not stand by and let you try and drag our once proud clan through the evil you intend to bring on the world. I do not fear death, I have lived long enough.
Myself, Boom and the rest of the true family understand the gravity of what these words mean and are just as ready as I. If not by my sword then maybe by one of Boom’s special gifts your very life and you ambitions will be snuffed out.
May you be forever cursed.
Bosephus Blackgate

Dearly Deluded Elmerton

To the town of Elmerton,

I apologize for not coming to you and speaking to you in person after someone from your town, once again, has stomped over my dreams of becoming Shadow Queen. It appears that I am not afforded with the same luxury of waltzing into the town and speaking with you as an equal as you grant Elonde. I often wonder if I had approached you first, if you would offer me the same respect as you offer her. I’m sure she has manipulated most of you well enough for you to think that you would not. I understand that we have had our differences in the past. I try to follow on my path of becoming Queen of the Shadows and you all continue on the path to ensure that doesn’t happen for whatever reason you’ve deluded yourselves with. Some of you may be blinded by the glimpse of the future that we have shared together, some of you may think that future is one I wish to have, you would be wrong.

Elmerton, I continue to not understand why you involve yourselves in matters that don’t particularly concern you. Why do you care about what happens in the Shadow Realm? Why do you see me as unfit to bring it the peace it so desperately deserves? The realm has been suffering from a civil war for years now thanks to none other than one of your own possessed towns members. The longer it takes to find a Queen, the worse the tensions will become for the realm. I assure you that I only want what is best for the Shadow Realm and I assure you there is more to this than you can fathom. If any of you would like to speak with me or assist me on my path to becoming Queen, I implore you to reach out to me. You will be free from any harm that you fear may come to you while speaking with me.

To those I have cursed with not finding contentment until Lord Tarragon is destroyed, I do apologize. However, I wouldn’t curse you with something that I did not believe you could not handle. I have faith that you will succeed in this task and wish you luck in doing so.

Yours in Shadows,

Queen Incumbent

Rebekkah Skye

Calling All Gatherers!

Elmertonians!

It’s me, Baxter! I bid you a fond beginning to autumn, and hope that it comes with cooler temperatures, breathtaking foliage, and delicious pumpkin spiced coffee from Aces. (Please?)

aloeAs much as I’d like to spend the entirety of this announcement endlessly gushing about the glories of pumpkin spiced coffee, alas, I have business to conduct. During the heat of the summer months, I embarked on an expedition to gather some of the rarer components located throughout Irvanshire. While on the trail of a kaleidoscope of butterflies, I was brought close to Elmerton and, to my amazement, found what appeared to be components so ancient that they hadn’t been seen in eons!

My working theory is that some sort of time-disruption, caused by the Evernight Forest, may have brought seeds, spores, and stones into the era of today, causing these primordial components to appear! In addition to this, it seems is if, when transcending time through the Evernight, small collections of what I can only guess is the essence of the Evernight, as they appear to have coalesced into small, bead-like stones of the deepest blues and purples, appear nearby them. I can only guess that, as these time disruptions occur, more of these components will be left throughout your town. However, please do not attempt to gather these components unless you have specifically learned how to Gather Components- they are fragile and I need these intact. Crushed components are not great for anything.

I’ll tell you what. IPotion-2-icon plan on being in town around noon on Fortuneday to get some pumpkin spiced coffee, and will gladly pay you 4 silver nobles for every three primordial components you give me at that time. If you wish to sell me some in an amount NOT divisible by three, I will pay you 1 noble, instead.  It is my full intention to take these mysterious substances and study them, in hopes of unlocking mysteries related to not only alchemy and toxicology, but the history of each of the components and theories on how each component manages to grant the properties it does. Anyone seeking to discuss such things should seek me out at this time as well, so we may correspond in the future.

Yours in Cheesemaking and Romping Around In the Woods,

 Baratraxar “Baxter” Humboldt

Magestry’s Best of Stillbreeze 126

Here are our picks for the August 26th-28th event:

Jack Garren for consistently good roleplay as a PC and NPC.

Jack Garren for consistently good roleplay as a PC and NPC.

This month’s Best PC has been an integral part of the game and a stand-up member of our community since the beginning. Myk Meyer as Jack Garren has not only been a wonderful role-player and a model PC, but he has also been a warm and welcoming presence for new players and has worked to help maintain the friendly player base we are so proud of these days. On top of that, he always makes sure to come and help out NPCing whenever he can. Thanks, Myk, for all you do for the game and congrats!

I had a great time RPing with Jack Garren. He was quick to talk to many of the new players, and he’s eccentric but enjoyable to be around. I even had a chance to witness some of his deeper character traits.

Jack is another who is always on his A-game. Roleplaying his own particular brand of crazy, and always engaging newer players, the Elmerton just wouldn’t be the same without him.

A lot of the new pc’s were very fun to interact with and meet, but Jack really takes the prize this time. He really went out of his way to “recruit” many of the newer players.

I really like Jack. He is so good at RP that I actually thought he was upset OOG and had to ask him about it. He also goes out of his way to make new players feel comfortable and takes time to answer their questions about the land and important people of Elmerton.

Jack is always hilarious but seeing a dark-side of him was sobering. Great roleplaying

Jack– he was fantastic in his role-playing, and really engaged the new characters right from the start. I pretty much feel obligated to help him rise to royalty.

steve-koval-best-npc

This month’s Best NPC is a very new addition to the game who really saved our butts and your dinners this game! While Wilhelm was feeling under the weather, Steve Koval really stepped up to help out and make all those burgers and dogs for you hungry folks! On top of that, he was ready to help out wherever he could including playing crunchy roles or whatever else needed to be done. We are impressed with his abilities and extremely glad to have him at game! Thanks so much for all your help, Steve!
