Player Submisison: Message From Sevn

Dearest friends, and anyone else who happens to be reading this,

It strikes me with an uncomfortable feeling that I am incapable of being able to describe at this current point in time due to certain circumstances to be contacting you all this way. I have some…family matters…that need attending to, despite advice from my brothers to leave well enough alone. Hopefully I survive and am able to bring whatever news I find to you all in person, but for now, I must say goodbye to Elmerton. For how long, I do not know, but I will try with everything I have left at the end of this journey to make it back to the only place I have left to really call home. I will miss each and every one of you. Yes, ALL of you, no exceptions, but there are answers I need to find, and looking for them while residing in Elmerton will only put all of you in harm’s way.
Anyway, on to more pressing issues that may be of some concern to all of you. I recently spent some time this past summer taking a trip to the Nightmare Wood, or, at least what is left of it. It is the place Lex, myself, and the rest of our family called home for several years before we moved on to other things. While looking for information about this particular family issue I am dealing with, I came across the old village that once stood there. The paths were overgrown, and I saw smoke billowing from the treetops, so I made haste to see what was going on.
What once was the village that stood down the trail from my childhood home was now a scene of desolation and ruin. All but one building had been totally burnt and destroyed. As I walked further into the clearing, I noticed a pit piled high with burnt, skeletal remains, I assume the families of the villagers I once encountered as a child.
On the porch of the single, unscathed building was a figure sitting on a rocking chair. I am not quite sure who or what he or she may have been, for they were horribly burnt and disfigured. This person warned me that I should take my leave, as a plague had swept through the place. With some further questioning, I was told that the village was destroyed in retribution for crimes the people committed while whoever this was was away, a lightning storm caused a fire that rampaged through the town and killed everyone else.
I am not exactly sure if this information is pertinent to anything else anyone has heard, but I figured I may as well share it while I am still able to.
Sorry for taking so long to reach out to you all, apparently someone thought it would be a fun idea to teach his construct to develop a taste for parchment, and this is the third time I have had to pen this.
Best of luck and all that other emotional silliness,
-Sevn

Here are our picks for the Best of the September 25th-27th event:

LinarienBestPC

Linarien stood out to me this moon. She was very involved in helping the town in every way she could.

This month’s Best PC is one of the sweetest people we know and we have recently started to see her shine both IG and out. Whether Steph Lindquist is taking on the job of Setup Coordinator before game or Linarien is standing up to Carzon (even if it means going on a crazy emotional roller coaster ride), Steph has stepped up her game to levels we have just not seen from her before, and we are thrilled and extremely grateful to have her at Magestry. This season would have been much more stressful without her and the game, in-game and out, would have suffered without her here. Thanks so much, Steph! We really appreciate it!

“Linarien did a great job of keeping an eye on what was going on in town stepping into the spotlight to lead when necessary.”

“Linarien isn’t always noticed, but she has gotten increasingly faster and stealthier. Her role-playing has also evolved and Linarien is coming into fruition. She was really getting in there and fighting for what she believed in and for the good of the town.”

Our Best NPC for this month was truly a lifesaver this event. Did you interact with people in the Broch? Did you find little interactions you could do with another PC throughout the Tourney Field? How ‘bout them components? Yup! Almost all of that was done this event by Dave Kopchick. Dave just recently joined staff and has been a breath of fresh air behind the scenes. He is so full of positive energy and unrelenting enthusiasm that he really energizes the staff and helps us to stay motivated and ready to go. We are so very glad to have him back at game and happier than we can say that he joined the staff. Thanks so much, Dave!

“Dave K. did an amazing job this event no matter what he was out as he put in 100 percent. I’m really glad to see him back. Whether he was out crunching or out talking to the town we had great interactions with him.”

“My favorite NPC this game has to be Dave Kopchick. He’s a great guy to have around, and really shines when it’s time to goblin.”

Families Displaced in Great Frostwood

Reports from the Great Frostwood indicate that soldiers clad in orange tabards displaying the spear and crook of the warmonger known as the War King have been displacing communities there.  Towns surrounding the Frostwood are getting increased traffic from migrants, straining their own ability to operate and feed their citizens, despite this year’s bountiful harvest.  When approached for an official statement, House Windlock, under whose jurisdiction much of the Great Frostwood falls, reports that no one is being forced from their homes, and anyone travelling under their own volition are welcome to do so pursuant to the internal migration policies of the Kingdom of Irvanshire.

Strange Migrations

Irvanshire,

You’ll never guess the surprise that befell me several weeks ago. As I was on the edges of my compound, patrolling for poachers and safeguarding the wood, I stumbled across several wood trolls making a beeline right for me. As I fight defensively, I drew my blade and awaited their attack, but, surprisingly, they proceeded to run right by me! Flabbergasted, I continued to patrol my lands and discovered several other groups of wood trolls doing the exact same thing! They all appeared to be heading north, but kept looking behind them to the south, as if worried that something was following them.

Since then, other colleagues of mine have reported similar findings all over Irvanshire. The common connection seems to be that they are either migrating or fleeing north. As a researcher of all things natural, I encourage anyone with any information at all about these strange occurrences to make contact with me via letter or seek me out at my lodge in The Great Frostwood in person. I eagerly look forward to any responses at all. Keep your eyes sharp!

Regards,

Stay Awake- Don’t Close Your Eyes

I will not lay me down to rest.

My heart beats quickly in my chest.Artist's Rendition

I sit at night in bed full dressed.

For in my dreams, it waits. It waits.

My eyes betray me- Dream takes O’er

Clouds of rank breath o’er me pour

Claws pierce my body spilling gore

That used to be me. That was me.

I will not lay me down to rest. I will not lay me down to rest. I must not lay me down…

Disturbing, isn’t it? This was a poem written by one of my constituents before he was found dead in his bed a week later. The frightened expression on his face and extensive internal bleeding perplexed his family and healers throughout the city- especially since there was minimal external damage (a spiraling bruise was found centered over his heart). His closest friends, when asked, said that he had been plagued by awful nightmares recently- especially ones in which a primal, clawed beast stalked him relentlessly before shoving its claws through his chest and killing him. The strangest thing about these dreams seemed to be that he stayed asleep through his dream death longer than most people do. Most people, for example, will wake up before they die in their dreams. However, this young man claimed that he saw himself die at the hands of this intelligent hunter in his very vivid dreams. Sadly, these strange dreams weren’t given much consideration until after his death. Since then, there have been at least a dozen or so people in Hatchport alone who have come to me relaying hauntingly similar dreams.

There have been several deaths recently that have very similar circumstances (all with spiraling bruises left on their bodies) and whose families have relayed similar concerns about nightmares, and it is my belief that this will continue to happen. I believe that we have a killer on our hands that is able to move, and kill, through dream itself. I will be taking pains to investigate the kingdom and stop this, so if you have information or have witnessed either these nightmares or know someone who has, please send information to me as soon as possible.

Ritual Sites Animated by Tshukurka

Elmerton,

in the wee hours of the morning on the last night of Stillbreeze, I passed through your town as part of a normal patrol. I was witness to something I thought you should be made aware of. I had been looking at the ritual spot that had been created in front of the Allegiant Hall when I heard someone approaching. The rattle of bones and the putrid stench of the recently dead made it apparent that whomever was approaching was doing so with a group of undead. I backed into the shadows and kept watch.

Two men with the mark under their left eyes that identified them as a Remeika came and stood in front of the site. Calling out to the Exiled One and using power directly borrowed from him, one of the men said a series of incantations and cut his arms, bleeding profusely over the site. Finally, he cast an extremely powerful summons to rise and serve his Master and the ground beneath him trembled and broke as a creature similar to the Grave Elementals, but created from the bones and objects of the site, crawled out and stood before him.

The necromancer looked over his creature appraisingly and then ordered his whole group to follow him. I followed them quietly and watched as the same thing was repeated at the ritual site between Lower Cabin and the entrance that leads to the Southern Woods.

After both his creatures had been raised, he gave them instructions to seek out the Guardian, Azareth, and kill him. The creatures lumbered away and the necromancer looked to his companion saying, “If it hadn’t been for him, all three would have been completed with ease.”

With that, the necromancers and their group of undead walked out of town. I sent word as quickly as I could to some of the other Waywatchers in the area, so I doubt they made it very far. However, all the same, it is likely that this Azareth is in trouble and I thought you should know about it.

Here are our picks for the “Best of” for the August 28th-30th event:

KennyBest Of

This month’s Best PC is a quiet type, but Kenny Rocci really showed us his colors this event as Azareth. Every interaction we had with him this weekend was great and his role-playing and intensity during the final ritual battle was truly fantastic. Kenny also goes out of his way to make sure that he is helping behind the scenes and doing what he can to help make the game run more smoothly. We are so very happy to have him with us! Thanks, Kenny!

Azareth’s intensity during the final battle when he got tasked with stopping the ritual was great! He did a fantastic job!

I always enjoy role-playing with Kenny. He’s always helpful and nice and does a great job.

Azareth was on-point during the tzigane ritual on Sunday and took that plot very seriously, which was great to see!

It’s tough to put into words just how much we appreciate and really value this month’s Best NPC. From the moment he joined our staff, Nick Donoghue has become an integral and important member of Magestry’s team. His extremely helpful attitude, kind disposition, and awesome role-playing abilities are waaaay above par and we are so incredibly lucky that we have him with us. He is always looking to help write the game or help out during the event wherever he can. This game he even bought and donated half of the game’s dinner (not to mention all the food he brings and makes for our NPCs)! Nick always goes above and beyond our expectations and we are so very grateful to him for everything. Thank you so much, Nick!

Nick Donoghue. His combat roleplay is fantastic

Nick it is always fun role playing with Nick, either in combat or just a talking role.

Nick Donoghue one of my perennial favorites he puts a lot of character in every character.

The tough guy who wanted to be the incarnation of toughness. Pretty funny, hope to see him evolve in the future.

Player Submission: Common Man’s Guide to Minions of Tshurkurka

The subject of this moon’s installment of my series is the minions of Tshurkurka. While this guide will not tell you everything you need to know about Tshurkurka, it will prepare you with a basic understanding and equip you with the Knowledge necessary to combat his servitors.

Tshurkurka was a Tzigane of the Remeika family who found an ancient tome from which he learned much of blood magic and necromancy. He plundered the graves of his family ancestors for power, and eventually sought out the grave of the Tzigane necromancer Gallus.

Gallus had been exiled by the Tzigane is his time and been banished from the from the physical realm. In his attempt to absorb Gallus’ power, Tshurkurka somehow absorbed Gallus’ banishment.

Noshi faceMost of Tshurkurka’s servants are outcast Tzigane. When a Tzigane is cast out, he or she is cursed with a teardrop tattoo under the eye as an outward symbol and a reminder to everyone that that person has betrayed their family. Those who serve Tshurkurka each bear a red teardrop and additionally have a silver crescent moon around each eye. These servitors are called Noshi.

There are three types of Noshi. The weakest are still living but have the ability to reflect and turns spells back upon the caster, suggesting a lunar connection. The second type of Noshi are undead Noshi. These creatures have typical undead traits: immunity to most spirit and psychic effects, vulnerability to cure spells, etc.

The most dangerous type of Noshi are undead that have been made into constructs. In addition to the immunities common to undead, they are capable of absorbing an opponent’s entire life force, sometimes even in response to being struck with a weapon! Be prepared to dodge or deflect such attacks, and keep in mind that it is often difficult to distinguish these foes from other less powerful Noshi.

Currently Tshurkurka is using these Noshi to gather spiritual energy, and has an arrangement worked out with the Gatekeeper whereby the Gatekeeper gains the best “bits” and Tshurkura keeps the rest. It is unclear what the Tshurkurka gains in exchange.

Another threat created by Tshurkurka are the so-called “Grave Elementals” — essentially an animated grave site, earth and all. They are highly destructive and difficult to take down but are not invulnerable. As creatures of elemental earth they are vulnerable to lightning, and and they are also vulnerable to spirit energy.

Grave Elementals are capable of causing minor earthquakes, knocking over people in a large area, and pummeling single foes. Keep in mind that while Grave Elementals hit like a ton of rocks, they are also dumb as rocks and slow as molasses. They will tend to pursue one foe until another strikes it harder. Even if you cannot deal damage of a type to which it is vulnerable, in many cases you can simply strike from behind once or twice and walk away (running is rarely necessary). This is especially effective as a way to gain a Grave Elemental’s attention and keep it from striking a foe that has been knocked off of it’s feet.

In fact, standing behind a Grave Elemental is often an effective way to stay out of the shockwave and avoid being knocked down. You can then attack it from behind, causing it to turn and focus on you and allowing your allies to regain their footing.

For further information on Tshurkurka, contact Majento or myself.
