Here are our picks for the October 10th-12th event:

Mike K crushed it this event. He is always on point, but he really did a great job this game.

Mike K crushed it this event. He is always on point, but he really did a great job this game.

This month’s Best PC is a tried and true veteran with a reputation for always bringing his “A” game. However, this game, with his participation in Aces, his gorgeous Ayslee setup and ceremony, his desire to try and make sure everyone is having fun, and his top-notch role-playing, Mike Kinnally as Solun really showed us how it’s done! On top of everything he did as a PC, he helped out behind the scenes NPCing and even did the worst dishes on Sunday morning! He is a loyal, dedicated, and helpful PC and we are truly very lucky to have him at Magestry! Thanks, Mike!

Here are some of your thoughts about his performance!

-Mike Kinnally was everywhere this weekend. As Solun he ran Ayslee and Aces, both of which I’m sure took a lot of work behind the scenes as well. Plus he stopped some sort of demonic fey ritual, so there’s that. On top of that he somehow found time to play what seemed like over a dozen NPC roles! Definitely best PC this game.

-As stated above, Kinnally is an absolute treasure. It is hard to find a specific role that I preferred over the rest because all of them were incredible.

-Michael was on point role-playing with Ayslee and the fae queen. He really had an intensity that he always has but doesn’t always show.

-Solun is consistently great with his OOG and IG dedication to Magestry. His performance during Ayslee, both the town’s and with Leanhaun, was top tier.

Mike Mirantz was great to fight against - I seemed to always encounter him, and so far, I can still outrun him, which is a good thing.

“Mike Mirantz was great to fight against – I seemed to always encounter him, and so far, I can still outrun him, which is a good thing.”

Best NPC of the month goes to a wonderful guy who jumped right into staffing and brings an excitement, enthusiasm, and know-how with him to game. Mike Mirantz has been a wonderful NPC- showing up for plot meetings, helping out before and after games, writing plots, and being willing to do what needs to be done during game. When there are times when no one else is able to fight, Mike strives to push through his exhaustion and help when he can. Mike is a great role-player and a safe fighter and we are so happy to have him on staff! Thanks, Mike!

Magestry’s Best of Harvestwane 124

Here are our picks for the September 19th-21st event:

Toner Best PC

Majento was, as always, a solid roleplayer and positive influence on my enjoyment of the game.

This month, our Best PC is someone who is truly representative of the best kind of player any LARP could ask for. Anthony LaRosa who plays Majento, is not only a great role-player and a safe (and competent!) fighter, but as a talented musician, he also strives to help create and maintain the kind of immersive atmosphere we love to have at game. On top of all that, he is a constant help OOG- he has been setup coordinator for years, ensuring that everything gets set up even before most staff members get to the camp. He also stays after each event leading mod-building cleanup and helping to make sure that we all get home in a timely fashion. We are truly blessed to have him at game. Your PELs indicated that you were also impressed with Majento. Here are some highlights:

“I spent a lot of time with Magento this game which is always a positive.”

“I always love role playing with Toner and think he does an excellent job and brings an interesting sort of darkness to the game.”

“Magento always holds a place in my heart, but since his run in with the Furies, I find his turmoil very fascinating. And Toner plays it so well.”

Thanks for everything, Toner!

DCIM101GOPRO

VIL-helm was FABULOUS! I hope we see him again!

This month’s Best NPC goes to one of our newest staff members, Nick Donoghue! Nick has been a wonder behind the scenes, coming to help set-up before game, staying after to clean-up, and being an amazing NPC during the event. Not only does Nick rock out as a crunchie whenever we need him to (or take on the hefty role of an Orcish Incarnation!), but he is a fantastic role-player with a flair for making people laugh. Also, he has been kind enough to make dinner for us for the past few games! You, too, thought he did a great job:

“Nick’s NPC, Wilhelm, who became the servant of the mages guild for a copper was super funny. I’m often impressed with Nicks role playing and Vilhelm did not disappoint.”

“Nick Donoghue was by far my favorite NPC this past event. In addition to being great for my plot, he played the perfectly lovable Wilhelm -pronounced VILhelm- and even prepared us dinner.”

“Wilhelm was hilarious and such a good time. We are going to have a blast with him and I assume he loves creating problems for us to by being awkward at the worst times.”

Thanks, Nick!

Magestry’s Best of Stillbreeze 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the August 29th-31st, 2014 event:

"Falling Star clan, you were all great and your enthusiasm was something I hope we get to see again."

“Falling Star clan, you were all great and your enthusiasm was something I hope we get to see again.”

This month’s Best PCs were a group of new folks who sauntered into town with a quick wit, a good sense of humor, and stellar role-playing abilities to match. The Falling Star Clan of half-orcs (and a pink skin!) including Beth A-B, Jane Rumrill, Jerrod W., Jesse Stanley, Stephanie Sawyer, and Raymond Nagle were a great addition to the game and you had some wonderful things to say about them in your PELs:

“The half orc crew impressed me with their ability to stay in character, their leader was probably my favorite overall.”

“Goodness, I feel bad saying the whole half orc crew as a whole. If I had to narrow it down I would pick Evendar. He was a real treat to be around. Very funny, very approachable and easy to talk to.”

“The Half-orc clan. They were hilarious, stayed in character all game, and added an element of constant fun.”

“The Falling Star clan was also great to have around, their energy was contagious and their enthusiasm for the game really showed.”

“The entire Falling Star clan of half-orcs – and the one pinkskin- really stole the show. They all had excellent costuming and roleplaying, asked some great questions, and contributed a lot to the atmosphere this game.”

“Clan Falling Star as a collective were my favorite pcs. Good roleplaying and their characters were entertaining to try and convince them that Elves do not eat babies.”

"Kyle Church! You ruled this game!"

“Kyle Church! You ruled this game!”

This month’s Best NPC has been with us for quite a long time, but has only recently come back after visiting some of the country out west. We are quite glad that Kyle Church has returned and we are thrilled with his performance this past game. Kyle did a wonderful job with every role we gave him and had no problem crunching or helping to set things up or doing what needed to be done. He was a treat to have behind the scenes, and many of you agreed that he was great in-game as well:

“(From the PELs) Favorite NPC:

Kyle, for his performance as the shamed gypsy Lycan and the prisoner/slave who had his brother killed by the guard/slavers.

Kyle Church was great this game. Really really great. He was out several times to manage the new player mod stuff and seemed like he was doing a good job of it.

Kyle Church! You ruled this game! Way to rock the new player walk plot and play all your crunchies so well. Your effort was very noticeable and very appreciated.

I also think Kyle Church did a great job as his Mestere guy for the new player group. He really impressed me with his role playing and his ability to remember some plot knowledge.”

Thanks, Kyle, and congratulations!!

Magestry’s Best of Enlightening 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the June 27th-29th, 2014 event:

Best PC

“I would follow her into battle any day.”

Dawn Coolidge really shone this event in her role as Lex Mitorae. Whether it was knocking down Hyurog bodily and feeding on him, or standing at an anvil creating things to help protect the town or delegating responsibility, she did an amazing job in her last game as Lex, and lots of people noticed. Here are words of praise from your PELs: “Lex had some great moments during her last game. [She] showed definite enthusiasm and acceptance of responsibility.”
“Lex was great this event- [she was] gettin [stuff] done, and I was glad to be able to help”
“Lex did a great job running with all the different plots she had going on this game. She was super busy but handled them all superbly. And when she couldn’t do things herself, she delegated like a boss.” “Lex was amazing, planning with both her generals and keeping the town in the know. I would follow her into battle any day.” Congrats, Lex! You deserve this!

We are truly fortunate to have another remarkable new NPC on staff who has quickly found her place at the game. This month’s Best NPC, Cara Backman*, came to us a couple of events ago and has really shown us what a wonderful person, nevermind NPC, she is. Cara is just a wellspring of energy, enthusiasm, helpfulness, and volunteerism. She is constantly helping wherever she can, whether it is with cleaning or crunching or setting up mods or diving into role-playing. She is often one of the first people at the camp to help set up and one of the last to leave at the end and she does it all without complaint. We are so happy that she finally came to game, and even happier that she is on staff. Though this is a paltry “Thank you” next to what you actually deserve, Cara, know that we truly mean it. Thank you!

Magestry’s Best of Petalsong/Enlightening 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the May 2nd-4th, 2014 event:

138-3817_IMGThis month’s Best PC has been with us since almost the beginning of the game (check him out in his first ever costume! #Magestrytbt) and has really had some shining moments in his time! This game, however, Artie Cote, really came into his own as Simon Garren and, with his performance throughout the entire game, showed us what he is made of! As you said in your PELs, “Artie has done a really great job making Simon a completely different character from Vincent. This game he did a REALLY great job during his dinner performance, playing it nervous and with the songs. He was also just great in general all game.” We couldn’t agree more and are super pleased to give him Best PC. Thanks, Artie! Congrats!

Clara

Our Best NPC  for Petalsong, Clara Bertagnolli, is truly remarkable because she came to us out of the blue and, without knowing anyone (or really even having LARPed before!), dove right into game and joined staff, started writing plots, and took on (and rocked!) some great face roles.  Clara really astounded and impressed us with her amazing energy, her willingness to do whatever needed to be done, and her thoughtfulness all along the way- even staying late to help clean up! We are SO very glad that she found us and we hope to have her around for a good long time. Thank you so much, Clara!

Magestry’s Best of Petalsong 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the May 2nd-4th, 2014 event:

Best PC May 2014This month’s Best PC is one who jumped into the game wholeheartedly not too long ago, but with so much energy that we are still happily reeling from it. We are very pleased to have Chris Galantich as Jansang at the game, and apparently so are you! Here are some comments from PELs about Chris’s performance this game:

-“Jan ,Orphan 57, was great all game, running amok and doing all of the things.”

-“His never ending enthusiasm and heart is really delightful to be around, and this game he did a great job organizing the new players and helping make sure they knew what was going on for final battle as well as trying to make sure the town was always fighting near the tourney field instead of in front of the tavern.”

-“Without a doubt this goes to Mr. Galantich as his wonderful orphan. He went through the entire game with an energy and enthusiasm that was just impossibly infectious. He offered his help whenever he could, fought with conviction, and more importantly, safety, and was just all around enjoyable to be around.”

-“Jansang’s energy was near unparalleled the entire event. He was always up for anything and gave 100 percent all the time. Plus he’s hilarious.”

Great job, Chris! Congratulations!

Best NPC May 2014

This month’s Best NPC is one of those NPCs you know you can always count on, no matter what needs doing. Casey Pastore really shined behind the scenes at last event as he helped out where he could, did whatever roles were asked of him, and made many PCs very happy just by being out in game. We are super glad to have him on staff and are grateful for everything he has done for us! Thanks, Casey!!

Magestry’s Best of Newgreen 2014

Here are our picks for the Best of the April 4th-6th event:

Best PC starApril brought us another event in which Myk Meyer as Jack Garren shone as Newgreen’s Best PC. We saw a lot of wonderful role-playing from a bunch of players this game, which made it hard for us to choose just one for this article, however, it was clear on our write-up sheet as well as in your PELs that Myk did a stellar job this game. Congrats, Myk!

This event two of our NPCs really stepped up to help out when it was most needed. Jess Best NPC starSerra and Amanda Mooney stood out being this month’s Best NPCs for all their hard work before, during, and after game. From writing plots to taking over in the absence of a GM to doing some really great role-playing to doing all the dishes after game without running water, these two are prime and shining examples of the kind of NPCs that make our lives easier and the game more fun to play. Moonzies. Jess. Thank you so much, and congratulations!

Magestry’s Best of Boneharvest 123

Here are our picks for the Best of the November 1st-3rd event:

Best PC starThough we were not surprised that Casey Pastore was Boneharvest’s Best PC, we were a little surprised at the magnitude of his shining performance during his last game as Osirus Mesmirum. Casey has always been a dedicated role-player and a helpful PC both in and out-of-game, but this event we saw him perform at peak levels. He has always demonstrated qualities that we admire and value in our PCs, and we are excited, not only to give him Best PC for this month, but also to have him on staff for as long as he’ll stay! Thanks, Casey, and congrats!

Boneharvest was another month in which is was hard for us to pick the Best NPC since Best NPC starour staff has just been so incredible. However, we have a dynamic duo that really put their all into this game and helped to make it even more amazing. Chris and Tim Stricker really spent a lot of time, effort, and money into this event, and were a huge help before and during game. They are masterminds in the mod building, monsters when it comes to fighting, crunching, and prop-making, and overall great NPCs.  We are glad that they are around. Thank you, guys, for all your hard work!
