Magestry’s Best of Enlightening 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the June 27th-29th, 2014 event:

Best PC

“I would follow her into battle any day.”

Dawn Coolidge really shone this event in her role as Lex Mitorae. Whether it was knocking down Hyurog bodily and feeding on him, or standing at an anvil creating things to help protect the town or delegating responsibility, she did an amazing job in her last game as Lex, and lots of people noticed. Here are words of praise from your PELs: “Lex had some great moments during her last game. [She] showed definite enthusiasm and acceptance of responsibility.”
“Lex was great this event- [she was] gettin [stuff] done, and I was glad to be able to help”
“Lex did a great job running with all the different plots she had going on this game. She was super busy but handled them all superbly. And when she couldn’t do things herself, she delegated like a boss.” “Lex was amazing, planning with both her generals and keeping the town in the know. I would follow her into battle any day.” Congrats, Lex! You deserve this!

We are truly fortunate to have another remarkable new NPC on staff who has quickly found her place at the game. This month’s Best NPC, Cara Backman*, came to us a couple of events ago and has really shown us what a wonderful person, nevermind NPC, she is. Cara is just a wellspring of energy, enthusiasm, helpfulness, and volunteerism. She is constantly helping wherever she can, whether it is with cleaning or crunching or setting up mods or diving into role-playing. She is often one of the first people at the camp to help set up and one of the last to leave at the end and she does it all without complaint. We are so happy that she finally came to game, and even happier that she is on staff. Though this is a paltry “Thank you” next to what you actually deserve, Cara, know that we truly mean it. Thank you!

Banta Kinswae Attack Irvanshirian Guardsmen

Several members of the Irvanshirian Guardsmen were viciously attacked by a number of members of the group known as the Banta Kinswae in the first few days of Stillbreeze. The attack occurred during a Security Training Assessment. A Lav’Endros caravan was moving through The South Farthings when it encountered a security training checkpoint. The checkpoint was to designed to assess the adequacy of the defensive responses of the Noble House using a staged attack. Once the initial phase was carried out, the Guardsmen would reveal themselves as such to the Nobility and provide a report on their response time and tactics. Any weaknesses in defense would be recorded and a group of the Guardsmen would be provided to train the Noble Guard appropriately. All Irvanshirian Noble Houses received missive of the possibility of encountering the checkpoints and were instructed to halt their defensive actions once the Guard had revealed itself.

After the initial phase of the Lav’Endros Training Assessment, during which many of the Lav’Endros guards morphed into what appeared to be Wolf-men or werewolves, the Guardsmen revealed themselves, but the defensive actions of the Lav’Endros guard did not stop and, in fact, became increasingly violent. Five of the six Guardsmen were killed and the other was seriously wounded before the Lycanthrope guards backed down.

Several Noble Houses are outraged over the incident, noting the severity of the tragedy and the apparent inability of the Banta Kinswae members to control their violent tendencies while in Lycanthropic forms- a characteristic of the members of the fringe group that is one of the most important facets binding the pack together and which distinguishes them from other dangerous Lycanthropes. Additionally, the ability of the leaders within House Lav’Endros to control its members and guards was questioned by several Noble Houses as well and has been a topic of concern amongst the Irvanshirian nobility.

Though House Lav’Endros has issued a apology for the attack, especially to the families of the victims, they have not offered comment on whether or not the guards were out of control of their forms during the attack or whether the violence was deliberate. In either instance, the potential danger surrounding the House and the Banta Kinswae is almost palpable. However, it is rumored that measures are being taken to keep the situation from occurring again and to insure the safety of the non-lycanthropic nobility of House Lav’Endros as well as her constituents and the people she serves.
