A Letter to Elmerton

Heroes of Elmerton,

I have received information that will help us in our fight to restore Armego to his rightful position. A liminal known as Xoltrium has graciously offered to help us and has given the following answer to a query about the hearts of the liminal drones we were able to obtain.

Placing the hearts of liminal drones into these warriors is a good step indeed. However, the hearts alone will not be enough. I will give you a handful of strands of hair from my living body and enough maggots from my dead body to allow each member of your force to have one of each. These must be used in conjunction with the hearts.

 Once the voice begins to hate the voice, the skin begins to hate the skin. You must reinforce this and fuel Hyurog,s rage- a weakness of his that you will need to exploit in order to tear him away from Armego. Two Warriors in unison will seek out one individual who must immediately find another individual of his choice with whom he will stage a fight. In front of the two warriors, the two individuals must make a show of one hating another- through one voice fighting another. Or one skin fighting another. At the height of the show, the individuals must turn their heat on the Warriors and fight them in honorable combat. If they are able to best the Warriors, they must then open each of the Warrior’s chests and insert the drone heart along with the strand of hair and the maggot. The Warriors will heal their own skin and return to the Aspect. Like a spark to tinder, the rage will build.

When you see a pair of the blue and orange Aspect Warriors (for lack of a better name) that we instructed the Aspect of the Orb of Creation to make, let them find the specific person they have in mind. If you are approached, you should find someone with whom to stage an argument of some sort – someone who has not yet fought one of these Warriors. It can be a fight with swords or with words, but it must be a spirited one regardless. When the fight heats up enough, both of the people involved should then fight the Aspect Warriors. If you are able to incapacitate them, each person must then take a strand of hair from a liminal, a maggot from a liminal, and a liminal drone heart and place one of each component inside the chests of the Warriors. Once you have fought a pair of these Warriors in this way, you will not be able to do so again.

Xoltrium has given me these components from his own bodies, and I will make sure that they get to you; I cannot be in town on Gatheringday, so other arrangements will be made.  By doing this, we are widening the split between Hyurog and Armego.  Hyurog’s rage is his weakness and it is how we can pull him away from Armego and the Incarnationhood.  Sending these Warriors back to him, altered in this way, should add to his Blood Fire and give us an advantage.

War King Denounces Lt. Hearkin!

Let It Be Known by decree of the War King:

The man known as Lieutenant Hearkin- and any troops with him- are considered to be deserters of and traitors to the War King and are hereby denounced as such. They no longer fight under the symbol of the War King, choosing instead to fight for the Gatekeeper, though they still dare to wear his colors. By order of the War King, Hearkin and any troops with him are to be killed on sight.

Magestry’s Best of Petalsong/Enlightening 124

Here are our picks for the Best of the May 2nd-4th, 2014 event:

138-3817_IMGThis month’s Best PC has been with us since almost the beginning of the game (check him out in his first ever costume! #Magestrytbt) and has really had some shining moments in his time! This game, however, Artie Cote, really came into his own as Simon Garren and, with his performance throughout the entire game, showed us what he is made of! As you said in your PELs, “Artie has done a really great job making Simon a completely different character from Vincent. This game he did a REALLY great job during his dinner performance, playing it nervous and with the songs. He was also just great in general all game.” We couldn’t agree more and are super pleased to give him Best PC. Thanks, Artie! Congrats!

Clara

 

Our Best NPC  for Petalsong, Clara Bertagnolli, is truly remarkable because she came to us out of the blue and, without knowing anyone (or really even having LARPed before!), dove right into game and joined staff, started writing plots, and took on (and rocked!) some great face roles.  Clara really astounded and impressed us with her amazing energy, her willingness to do whatever needed to be done, and her thoughtfulness all along the way- even staying late to help clean up! We are SO very glad that she found us and we hope to have her around for a good long time. Thank you so much, Clara!

Devoter Warsson’s War Song

Irvanshirians,

I write to warn you about a dangerous force that has presented itself in these last few weeks. Devoter Warsson, acting out of passion and zeal and to the glory of his Incarnation, has mustered a sizable army of devoted followers and is leading them on a War-filled rampage throughout Irvanshire. Joining him on several attacks, are strange warriors bedecked in blues and oranges- often mistakenly thought to be soldiers from Lowex. They do not follow the Devoters orders, as the rest of his army does, but fight with stoic intensity and honor, inspiring (and commanding) those around them to fight as well.

Though I firmly believe that the Devoter is acting in accordance with the deepest convictions of his very being, it does nothing to minimize the scope of the tragedy that comes with such a War-like coup. Dying on the battlefield is seen as a great honor to those faithful to War, and so the Devoter leaves hundreds of “Reverent Dead” in his wake. His blood is afire and he ignites the flames of War in those who would listen. I fear that as Hyurog’s power grows and solidifies, we will see this spark of war ignite in many others the world over.

So now, as we find ourselves on the brink of what could be a New Age- The Dawn of Victory, as the prophecy states, I write to warn you that though Devoter Warsson means to pay homage to his Incarnation through honorable and glorified War, his ilk and his followers may not have such honorable intentions, and even those who do may fall victim to the rage of War. Many will incite war for war’s sake, and many others will use this as an opportunity for despicable practices and to satisfy selfish intentions. Be wary and cautious! War is upon us.

However, I would also humbly beg you to remember to keep hope alive. Prophecies are many times not fulfilled and often have several meanings and ways to interpret them, and this one is no exception. Though some, the Devoter included, have taken it upon themselves to fulfill this prophecy and bring Allegiant Symbol Aloneabout the Dawn of Victory, it is by no means set in stone. Have hope and stay aware.

Hearkin Unto Me: Praise the Gatekeeper!

Foolish interlopers of the town of Elmerton,

You have had your fun and I must admit to certain grudging respect for the resolve shown. However the game is at an end. The Gatekeeper’s Glorious plans can not be hobbled by a rag tag band of outcasts and mud farmers.

The failing is mine, I suppose, for letting this go on for so long, having wanted to wait to slay you en masse when the Gatekeeper’s new realm was fully solidified. Instead, I’ve been sending only a portion of my strength to disenchant that Thorn of a banner you raised in defiance. Oh, I still will destroy that banner. Three of the four elements of the sigil- the Sword of Assault, the Sword of Repose and the Axe Held on High- are already dispelled, leaving only the Armor of the Burning Heart before this little exercise in futility is at an end. THE LAST ASPECT OF THE BANNER WILL FALL. Retreat from the battlefield while you can; slaying you now holds no gain for me. If you retreat to areas that support Armego, your deaths will be forestalled.

It is thusly that I shall rekindle my Moment of Luminescence. I, Hearkin, shall live forever under the Wing of the Gatekeeper, and a flood of Magestan blood shall wash away the faulty ways forged by the Incarnation of Death. I am the First of the New breed of Hero! I am the opening hand of a game where the Gatekeeper holds all the Cards! The Gatekeeper will undo the mistakes of old by using the Incarnation of Death’s own poisonous two way door against him!  Slay me a thousand times! For each death I rise Stronger, my mission Clearer and the voice of the Master more INSPIRING!

Player Submission: A Vision From the Abyss

I received this vision in a bloody haze of pain the other night and thought I should pass it along:

People of Elmerton:

Greetings from the Abyss! It’s me, Poonjesticle, Sole Heir to the Blue Prince of Darkness, Future Ruler of the Abyss, and I was just writing to let you all know that, rest assured, I made it home safe and sound! I must say the trip here was a bit more unsettling than I remember, but I did have that monkey to take care of. Worst. Interplanar. Travel buddy. Ever. He kept screaming the whole time and didn’t even make it here in one piece. Tell him he’s gonna have to do better than that when he kicks it for good and begins his eternity of demon slaying servitude. I hope the rest of you can hold your own better when you get here.

Otherwise I’m doing great, thanks for asking! The fire beaches are lovely this time of year and I must admit I got a little side tracked getting back to father’s blue demon palace. There are a lot of lovely terrors down here and hardly any green things, which is nice. You guys would totally love it!

I should probably apologize for that whole business with Beladross. I honestly didn’t realize who he was and that was a real low blow sacrificing Kraven’s dad and all. But, you know, Demons will be Demons. Loki gets it. All things considered I can’t complain. He did get me back home and with him mucking about on Magesta there’s one less ambitious foe in my father’s way.

Send my best along to Frank. I miss him dearly and his awesome stories about his dead family. Also he knows the best way to cook mortal flesh that dad’s chefs just can’t compete with. Considering how useless that monkey turned out to be I’d say Frank was a total steal. I should’ve asked for the souls of two children instead…

Fledgar’s Fellers Take Interest in Elmerton

Let it be known during the summer and start of the fall months the fledgars fellers mining company will be spread through town excavating the land and collecting samples. The reasons for this is twofold and will be explained here.
1. We feel historical artifacts may have been long forgotten below the ground as well as in the town lake. Although local history is rich and rather well documented it is of royal opinion that knowing more is always better. We have several leads that we will be following through on.
2. Elmerton has rich natural and unnatural resources. Even the more common ones are of a rare and exceptional quality that could serve a much higher purpose. This area seems to hold and release incredible energy and we would all benefit learning more about what exactly makes it all work.
We have been given permission to roam the lands in order to excavate, though any sort of work that may disturb the area will be presented and approved on a case-by-case basis. We will not engage in any sort of activity that will harm wildlife or upset the general landscape of Elmerton. This is an undertaking that will hopefully bring more knowledge about, and more money into, Elemerton.
We ask that you allow us to do our work with no protest. Any violent actions or acts of sabotage against associates of Fledgars Fellers Mining Company will not be taken lightly. Those who engage in such acts will be met with swift and harsh criminal penalties

Player Submission: Court Minutes- Petalsong 124

Court Minutes of Elmerton – 31st day of Petalsong, Year 124, Age of FortuneOpen book

1. Tellah Forgedheart, Minister of Hatchport, addressed Elmerton on the threat posed by the Gloomis and advised citizens to use the dream tokens acquired the previous evening in the dream realm to create centerpieces on tables in the Wining Spirit tavern that would act as a beacon for hopeless souls, and then to restore their hope when they approached the centerpieces.*

2. Rakesh addressed the town with information he learned from from a liminal named Zoltrian (sp?) about the Incarnation of War. It was confusing, but according to Rakesh’s source it seems that When Armego awoke, Hyurog awoke and that they share “one voice” and “one skin” and that the skin is Armego’s and the voice is Hyurog’s. The liminal further stated that they would continue to share voice and skin until “voice hates voice” and “skin hates skin.” It was suggested that a “piece of Hyurog” that was cast away – War with purpose – may be the key to getting the Incarnation to hate Itself, and thus separate Armego and Hyurog.

3. Minister Oliver described the recent rash of theft and called on townspeople to report what was stolen and what was known about the thefts. Pollux Caster reported 2 gold stolen in Upper Cabin, Solun reported over 6 gold stolen. Galynn reported the theft of a ring affixed with a “comically large diamond” and warned that the ring was “cursed” and would cause to rot the hand of any who would wear it.** Azareth reported that a man named Torok threatened to steal from any townsperson he found unconscious, and Watch Captain Ulysses stated that he had multiple reports of similar exchanges with Torok. Minister Oliver said that Torok would be brought in for questioning if he returned to Elmerton.

4. Minister Oliver clarified the purpose of the Town Watch: The Watch serves not to protect the town from outside forces – for this is a “city of heroes” – but to investigate crimes between townsfolk. The Watch has has no authority for summary judgement, and any crimes between townsfolk are to be reported to the Watch or the Minister. The Minister also pointed out that the Town Watch is recruiting.***

What follows are not properly Court Minutes, but instead “further reading” about the situations discussed at Court.

*Hopeless individuals did appear through the Evernight Forest, in one instance seeming to come from the Age of Repose. It appears that helping them empowered the dream tokens, and after relaying many stories of hope to the Great Gloomis, he and the spreading circle of despair at the edge of town have both vanished.

**The ring was indeed found and worn by the orphan Sebastian, and his hand was indeed rotting, discolored and swollen. Sebastian claims the ring was found on a trail. After reporting to Galynn for to the return the ring and seek treatment, the afflicted was told he would have to bear the ring for another day before it would be removed.

*** I spoke with Watch Captain Ulysses about the composition of the Elmerton Town Watch, and where our tax money goes. The ranking officer is Commander Kai, with Captain Ulysses as second in command. The other officers of the Watch are Loxi, Silver, Kaiji, and Semaril. According to Ulysses, the duty of the Watch is to investigate crimes between townsfolk, not to fight off invaders. Ulysses echoed Minister Oliver’s words that “Elmerton is, after all, a town of heroes.” In addition to paying the individuals listed above, Ulysses explained that taxes collected by the the Watch pay for farm relief efforts and infrastructure projects such bridges and road maintenance. The Town Watch has 4 openings for provisional officers as of the time of this writing.
