Approximately two moons ago, a tavern brawl resulted in the popular Rusty Mug Tavern and Inn burning to the ground. The fire was thought to have been started by a torch or candle being knocked to the ground and rolling into a tapestry. All patrons made it out of the Tavern mostly unharmed but the owner has not yet figured out who was responsible for the blaze.
Several days ago, another fire consumed a beloved Hatchport establishment. The Blue Messenger caught fire late Weepingday evening. Prior to the fire, The Blue Messenger was said to be full of patrons. A witness recalled seeing a small cluster of goblins huddled in the corner of the building, acting strangely. He is certain that they were responsible for the destruction of the Blue Messenger.
“One minute, they were yelling and screaming at each other and the next, they started laughing like fiends, one by one. They starting swaying around, holding their bellies with laughter. I am not sure if one fell into the kindling pile or if it was pushed but the kindling got too close to the fireplace and lit right up. The goblins scattered and the rest of the patrons began to panic. The room was too tightly packed to get water onto the fire.Once enough people cleared out, it was too late. Black smoke started pouring through the windows so I couldn’t be sure but I thought there was a human with them too. They might have been wearing a purple hat.”
The town is considering pooling their resources to build a solid stone establishment that will be much less susceptible to fire. Anyone with information on the goblins who frequented The Blue Messenger or who wish to donate to the Tavern Fund are encouraged to contact the Hatchport Town Guard.
