Falstoke Noble Gone Missing!!

Let it be known that Lord Ian Falstoke has vanished! His last known location was the Wining Spirit Tavern in the Fiddlehead Hilltown of Elmerton. Officials at the Lav’Endros Manor House report that he was in the company of five men at the time of his disappearance. The men named were Bram Norvin, Ukobach, Heinrich Lockberg, and two of the house guards of House Acciora. Since Lord Falstoke has not been found, the abovementioned individuals are the prime suspects of an impending investigation into the kidnapping and/or murder of a Noble.

Duke Abner Falstoke III has declared that, from the dawning of the first day of Enlightening, three months will be allowed for the return of Ian Falstoke, during which time he will be considered missing. If he has not returned by the dawning of the first day of Harvestwane, Lord Falstoke will be presumed dead, and all individuals suspected reasonably will be tried for the Murder of a Noble, a most serious crime in the Kingdom of Irvanshire.

Any found guilty of the murder or abetted murder of a noble will face Public Execution. If any of the executed should return from Death, as is rarely the fortune of a Magestan, they will then be magically Excommunicated from Irvanshire unless the patron noble of a given locale takes mercy upon them, in which case they will be subject to permanent magical detention within that locale.

Any information leading to the return of Lord Ian Falstoke will be rewarded by the Most Gracious Duke Falstoke.

Invitation to Smozzenpaunse

You have been cordially invited to participate!

Congratulations! Elmerton has been officially invited to participate in the 300th Annual Irvanshirian Smozzenpaunse Brownie Village Building Tournament! On this monumentous and historic tricentennial, we are inviting non-Ogrelings to participate in this Official Tournament for the very first time, and you Elmertonians have been deemed worthy of entry.

Over the past two years, you have been unknowingly watched and judged by two separate individuals who have witnessed the spirit of Smozzenpaunse within you all and the hard work, patience and dedication required to excel in the village building process. And so, on the words of Morvan Roundtusk of the Roundtusk Ogreling tribe and Gurunk, ogre shaman in good standing to The Furies, you have been judged worthy of entry from this year and stretching on ever-after.

Smozzenpaunse Eve falls upon the 9th of Enlightening — that’s Wakingday to all you people who don’t use calendars — so it is imperative that your village has finished construction be the end of the night on Wakingday so the Brownies can come and have their OWN festival and stay in your village. On the morning of the 10th of Enlightening we, The Brownie Architecture Judging Committee, will arrive in town to listen to your explanation of the village before we head on our way to other places throughout Irvanshire to judge other villages. Ensure that your Foreperson is present to provide names and other information, else your chance to win will be forfeit.

Prizes

1st Place: 10 golden crowns and a secret skill passed down through Ogreling tribes for generations
2nd Place: 5 Golden Crowns and a bottle of Special Reserve Ogreling Enchanted Mead with Brewing Lessons on how to make your own
3rd Place: 2 golden crowns and one random Very Rare component
4th Place: 1 golden crown
5th place: 5 Silver pieces

Remember! Brownies like their villages off the beaten path, usually in a shaded grove with or without water. All construction should be made of natural materials found in the local wood, else the brownies will shun the village itself. Brownies are a secretive, mysterious folk the size of your thumbnail, so do not try to catch one; they WILL outrun you.
So avoid the sweltering Enlightening sun and spend some time in the cool shade performing some calming, peaceful tasks. We look forward to see what you are all made of; we’ve heard nothing but good!

-The Brownie Architecture Judging Committee

Imps Boycott Bloomingport

The port city of Bloomingport hasn’t seen an exodus of imps of this magnitude since the “Concession of Concessions” was passed in 1785 AoA. Imps from all walks of life are packing up their homes and businesses and leaving in search of what the common census claims to be, “A safer place to live.”
Many are seeking sanctuary in larger cities like Tradegate and Point Edgar, while others aren’t taking any chances and have made the decision to leave the kingdom of Irvanshire entirely. Some going as far as relocating off Magesta to other dimensions like Ishria, Yefrines, and even Redbaal where they hope to find safety in numbers from the threat of being “Imp-napped”.
For those of you who aren’t an imp or not caught up on the current criminal affairs that have been transpiring in the dark alleys and unsavory parts of the City of Parks and Gardens, over the past year or so hundreds of imps have gone missing without a trace in Bloomingport and the local authorities have done little to nothing to stop it. Rumors abound as to why this is, ranging from incompetence in the ranks of the cityguard to corruption in its leadership and no one seems to know who is responsible or why it is happening.
Whatever the case may be, the criminals involved have been getting away with it for far too long and will continue to do so until someone steps in and takes charge of the situation or there are no more imps left to abduct.

At Long Last: News About the Explosion in Elmerton!

In the middle of Boneharvest this past autumn, an explosion was heard through all of the South Farthings, Fiddlehead Hills, and even beyond. This scribe can verify that it was audible from at least as far away as Riverton. Witness accounts had placed the epicenter of the explosion very close to the Town of Elmerton. I journeyed there and found the accounts to be accurate. Apparently, Abraham Blackgate, otherwise known as Boom Blackgate and the patriarch of the Blackgate family, had placed a very large bomb, for a reason unknown to me, a mere mile to the east of Elmerton Lake. When it exploded, it blew away a wide section of swamplands, leaving a large crater that, strangely, has yet to fill with water as one would reasonably expect in such a wet environment. Luckily, the saturated ground had absorbed much of the blast that otherwise might have done much more damage. Unluckily, however, the blast had other consequences.

It is no secret that the lands around Elmerton have strange qualities. It was only a decade ago that 39 square miles of the area were covered by the mysterious Evernight Forest, a place supernaturally starved of both light and sound. Some claim that the Evernight never actually went away. Perhaps that is the case, for the recent explosion seemed to release a dark energy that continuously lashed about the area, dampening any magic and hurting any living beings it touched. The epicenter of the blast was completely obscured by this energy, though out of that center, strange humanoid spider creatures began to appear. They were hostile and began spinning webs across the walls of the crater. Members of Elmerton’s Town Watch and even some citizens were there to meet them and engage them in combat.

Soon, Irvanshirian soldiers arrived to join the fight, and some of the kingdom’s noble houses even sent their own militias to help as well. That battle has raged until only recently. Due to the nature of the wild magic that could not be controlled, the noble houses involved petitioned the aid of the mage guild known as Concori Ayre. The mages who first arrived on the scene proved unable to control the magic; they were forced to call in three ayres from the guild to help. All three ayres are very capable magic users, and in the last day or two they have managed to bring the area under control and even close the portal that had been opened to wherever the spider creatures were coming from.

Coincidentally, since last year, this scribe has had several sources report that humanoid spider creatures were inhabiting the abandoned settlement of Marshall’s Landing, and it was thought that many of them had relocated to Elmerton, likely at the same time as the supposed “Invisible Citadel” was teleported there. The spiders’ leader, one called the Web Queen, has not been seen in Marshall’s Landing since then and also was not known to have shown her face at the explosion site turned battlefield. Instead, she is believed to be within a small patch of forest to the north of Elmerton. The area is surrounded by spider webs, and several of the spider creatures that escaped the battle made their way there, entered, and have not been seen since. The small area must have extra-dimensional properties if it is able to support as many spiders as have been reported to have gone there.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, my initial report to the Magestic Messenger about the explosion was delayed due to my being sent to several places along Irvanshire’s border with Tohmshire to investigate news of portals opening in random places and expelling all manner of strange creatures. The bulk of these portal sightings happened in a cone-shaped pattern heading, from the area of Marshall’s Landing, southwest, the exact opposite direction of Elmerton, so I can only assume the portals were somehow related to the explosion. However, I soon learned that the Portal Authority was hard at work shutting down these portals whenever they appeared and covering up any evidence that they had existed. I did not manage to find any real information about the portals or the strange creatures that may have come through them.

Since the three ayres have subdued the magic at the explosion site, I have not heard any more reports of wild portals; however, it has only been a day or two…

I suppose we will soon see,

Jessup Collingwood

NO VACANCY!

Is what the sign out front of the tavern in Elmerton should read (if there were a sign), for in recent months more and more folks have taken refuge in the establishment’s back room which is now bursting to capacity.
Hard times appear to have befallen the “Town of Heroes” as many of its local commoners are claiming that their homes and lands and even families have been taken from them by strangers or in a few cases, have gone completely missing.
Many of the displaced also appear very confused and befuddled by the circumstances which have led up to their homelessness, and brawls over ownership of local farms have forced the Town Watch to be called in to deal with the rising tensions.
Representatives of House Lav’Endros have yet to take further action until more can be learned of the situation. In the meanwhile, Baroness Lobea Lav’Endros has been quoted as saying, “The matter is not so dire at this time as to require further action from us. We at House Lav’Endros entrust the Town Watch to work in unison with the common folk of Elmerton in finding a resolution to this minor problem.”

Magestry’s Best of Reapingdusk 127

Here are our picks for the Best of the October 13th-15th event:

This event’s Best PC goes to Nate Carr for his beyond epic performance of Future Stiles.

Nate is already well known for his Great role-playing and fighting as Stiles Silvermist but this past event he truly outdid himself in his portrayal of himself from a rather bleak future. From being able to handle the weight of his grim message from the future and his use of his vastly expanded skill tree he had a performance for the ages and proved yet again why he is one of the more dynamic players we have at Magestry. Even when he’s not superpowered, he is a delight whether it’s holding fighting lessons in game, or just hanging out and talking, we enjoy his company.

Congratulations Nate!!!

“Nate was super helpful throughout the event”
“Super Stiles – did an awesome job role playing his visions and is overall concern about the outcome of the future.”
“Super Stiles, it was nice to have someone super powered to rally behind”

And your Favorite NPC this event was Jeff Pennachio!! Jeff is a vet in the LARP game and strives every event to uphold a personal standard in hopes of making the game enjoyable for everyone he encounters. But let’s not let that dissuade us from his sinister plots. Whether playing the big baddie or the nicest guy in town Jeff is a delight to the game. Even when he’s worn down, broken, and tired, he pushes through the pain to keep going out and crunch or roleplay so you can all enjoy yourself. He tries to keep his fighting as safe as possible in all conditions that the camp has thrown at him. He’s also been a help in trying to keep the morale up in Ops. For all of these reasons, Jeff we tip our metaphorical hats to you. Thank you for everything you do.

“Boom did a great job expressing the mix between sadness due to the loss of Bosephus, abandonment by Elmerton and anger all at the same time.”
“Jeff is always a pleasure to cross blades with.”
“I loved roleplaying with Jeff. Usually its just combat, but I got to actually see some other sides to his characters.”
“Jeff – I can’t express how much I appreciate how awesome of a job Jeff does.”
