Magestry Guilds
|
| Problem: In this Age
of
Information and infinitely advancing technology, too many people turn
too frequently to television, video games, impersonal communication,
etc. and away from true social interaction. Solution: Magestry creates and fosters an environment in which people of similar interests and hobbies can come together and share a game, good company, and lasting memories. Problem: You can't play Magestry all the time. Solution: The Magestry Guild System! Because we'd like to promote a more communicative and active society, the staff of Magestry is prepared to offer in-game rewards to players who gather outside of the game to play and learn together. Here's how it works: Qualifying as a Guild
Each guild must have at
least three (3) but no more than eight (8) members who are active
players of Magestry (An active player is anyone who has played or NPCed
a full Magestry event within the last year.). Each player can only hold
membership in one guild, though he or she may switch guilds at any time
(notifying the Guildmaster is, of course, required). Remember that
these guilds are out-of-game and membership belongs to you as a player
and not to your in-game character. (For example, Aneurin and Baeric
might hate on/murder one another weekly, but Gina and Nick can be in a
Magestry Guild together.)Creating Your Guild
Upon assembling for your
first guild meeting, you must fill out a Guild
Creation Form and include a name for you
guild that you collectively agree on. The Guild
Creation Form must be submitted to the
Magestry Guildmaster at Guildmaster@Magestry.com
(or by snail mailing it to the address at the
bottom of the form) and he will approve any name that is not vulgar or
already being used. You may name your guild almost anything you wish
[the Bakers' Guild, the Angry Panther Guild, the Pink Viking Guild,
whatever].Guild Meetings
We recommend meeting
once every other week, but feel free to make time as frequently as you
wish. For a guild meeting to count as official, your guild must fill
out a Guild
Meeting Activity Form and submit it to the
Guildmaster at Guildmaster@Magestry.com. The Guildmaster will process
no more than one Guild
Meeting Activity Form per guild
per week.Guild Meeting
Activities
Almost any activity is
appropriate for your guild meetings (Magestry
does not promote the use
of drugs or alcohol or any breach of state or federal law.).
Below is a
list of possible activities. Each activity is accompanied by a
corresponding number of "Guild Points" that can be earned by doing it.
Guild Points are described more fully under "Guild Rewards." The list
below is certainly only a partial one and new activities will be added
to it as you people decide what you like to do.6 Guild Points - Play a mini-Magestry game in the park (have handouts on hand to promote new players) 6 Guild Points - Community Service 4 Guild Points per Day - Camping, Hiking, Outdoor Sports 4 Guild Points - Teach your guild some skill 4 Guild Points - Read a book and have a literary review (kind of "Book Club" style) 3 Guild Points - Roundtable Discussion (using Effective Communication) 3 Guild Points - Art Project (especially something to be donated to Magestry!) 3 Guild Points - Prepare a Meal for your guild 3 Guild Points - Learn a skill from a fellow guild member 2 Guild Points - Join another Guild for Activities 2 Guild Points - Help a PC create a character history and choose skills 2 Guild Points - Boffer Weapon Practice 2 Guild Points - Play a Role-Playing Game 1 Guild Point - Play a Game 1 Guild Point - View a film and discuss it 0 Guild Points - Just "hang out" Patron Guilds
Every new guild will
need guidance when getting started, and where better to get that
guidance than from a guild that is already well-practiced in guild
operation? If your guild is the one that provides that guidance for a
new guild, your guild becomes what is known as a Patron Guild. Patron
Guilds help new guilds understand how to fill out and submit the
necessary paperwork to receive their in-game benefits and also teach
them the methods of Effective Guild Communication. Patron Guilds
receive additional in-game benefits for their efforts, and there is no
limit to the number of guilds each guild can be patron of.Guild
Rewards
So you may ask yourself,
"Getting together with my Magestry pals to learn and play together is
all well and good, but I mean, what the heck is in it for me, apart
from the lasting bonds I'll surely create as a result of this good and
wholesome system?"Well, I'll tell you: In-Game Rewards. Guild rewards are represented by a Guild Point system. For each meeting and each activity you attend, you earn a certain number of Guild Points. (Guild Points are earned by the individual and not by the guild as a whole.) Between games, you can use those guild points to earn yourself all manner of rewards that are useful in the World of Magesta. Guild Points are distinct and different from Brownie Points even though some rewards might be similar or overlap. In addition to the point rewards for the activities listed above (under "Guild Meeting Activities"), you'll earn Guild Points the following way: 2 Guild Points to each member upon creation of guild 2 Guild Points to each member upon gaining a new guild member 1 Guild Point to each meeting-attending member for every 2 active guild members present at a Guild Meeting 1 Guild Point to the guild member who acts as Secretary (i.e. fills out and submits Guild Meeting Activity Form) 1 Guild Point to each meeting-attending member for each properly answered weekly rules question 10 Guild Points to each member of your guild upon becoming Patron Guild for another Guild 1 Guild Point to each member for every meeting held by a guild that your guild is Patron of 25 Guild Points is the maximum that any one guild member can earn in one week. Below is a list of the possible in-game rewards and their subsequent Guild Point costs. To attain them, you must trade in your Guild Points for them by emailing the Guildmaster at Guildmaster@Magestry.com at least one week before the event. Rewards of one casting of a spell or one use of a single expendable skill will remain with you until used, even if you don't use it for multiple events or you switch characters. Those rewards are cumulative. This list of rewards is certainly subject to change: 10 Guild Points - Free Teach Card (for you to teach another character, not vice versa) 10 Guild Points - Free Day of OOG Travel (Horseback, Riverboat, or Ship) 25 Guild Points - One Use of Stabilize skill 25 Guild Points - +1 to Spot skill for One Event 50 Guild Points - One Casting of Telepathy 50 Guild Points - One free piece of Knowledge (you choose the type) 50 Guild Points - Use of Speak with Plants, Stone, or Magestry for One Event 100 Guild Points - One Use of Profound Lesson skill (see Professions & Prestige) 150 Guild Points - One Casting of Mind Link 150 Guild Points - Free Magical Transport 300 Guild Points - One Casting of Mind Barrier 750 Guild Points - Get-Out-of-Death-Free Card 1000 Guild Points - Learn One Special Add-On Skill from an NPC Certain activities will earn your guild Brownie Points in addition to Guild Points (donating props, recruiting new PCs, repairing our broken boffer weapons, washing NPC laundry, preparing a meal for an event, decorating in-game areas, etc.). Just ask what your guild can do to help. We appreciate all your efforts. Inter-Guild Meetings
In case we haven't been
demanding enough up to this point, Magestry would also like to promote
a healthy interaction between all of our players. Getting together with
your own guild is great, but why not join up with other guilds and
expand your social horizons even more? Besides, it may sometimes be
difficult to assemble your guild for a meeting while you still feel
like being active and rewarded for your efforts. Whatever your
motivation, you are free and encouraged to join another guild's meeting
or create a meeting for a random sampling of members from various
guilds. These types of meetings are called Inter-Guild Meetings, and to count as official, there must be at least four (4) active guild members present and a Guild Meeting Activity Form must be completed as normal. On the form, you must note that it was an Inter-Guild Meeting and not a meeting of any one guild in particular. The members and activities are listed as normal and all active members will be rewarded normally except that they will receive no Guild Points for the number of people that attend the meeting. If just one or a few visitors join another guild's meeting, it is still considered a meeting of that guild, and the active members of that guild will still receive Guild Points for the number of their own members that are present, but the visitors will not gain Guild Points from that source. If two or more guilds join each other for a meeting, a separate Guild Meeting Activity Form must be submitted by each guild. We also recommend arranging an activity that is open to all Magestry's members. If you would like to do this and negotiate a Guild Point reward for it, contact the Guildmaster at Guildmaster@Magestry.com. Guild Advancement
Each guild member has a
certain rank within his or her guild, ranging from Apprentice to Grand
Master. Everyone begins as an Apprentice and must complete certain
tasks to advance to Journeyman and then to Master and then to Grand
Master. The tasks required to become a Journeyman are outlined in the Apprentice
Advancement Form, tasks required to become a
Master are outlined in the Journeyman
Advancement Form, and tasks required to
become a Grand Master are outlined in the Master
Advancement Form. The tasks on these
forms are open to
some negotiation with the Guildmaster. If you think one of them will be
a severe obstacle for you, a similar alternative may be agreed upon.Upon becoming a Journeyman, the amount of Guild Points you are able to earn in a week increases to 30. Upon becoming a Master, the amount of Guild Points you are able to earn in a week increases to 40 and all Guild Points you earn are multiplied by 1.5, rounded up). Upon becoming a Grand Master, the amount of Guild Points you are able to earn in a week increases to 50 and all Guild Points you earn are multiplied by 2). Communication at
Guild Meetings
In order to practice
communication skills that will help you maintain the kinds of
relationships you desire (whether formal or informal) as you wander
through life and to prevent this guild system from becoming a clique
generator and upsetting other Magestry players through
miscommunication, guild members will be expected to follow the
guidelines of Effective
Communication. These
guidelines can be found in a mind-blowing document available here.
Please study it and practice it at guild meetings;
it will make you powerful.Keeping Your Guild
Active
If at any point a guild's
membership drops below three (3) active Magestry players, that guild
becomes inactive. Inactive guilds no longer gain in-game benefits nor
can their patron guilds gain benefits for them. A guild may become
active again and resume as normal upon its membership increasing to at
least 3 active members.To Recap
Making your way in the world today takes
everything you got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would
help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away?Magestry Guilds: Where everybody knows your name. |
